Yesterday Once More /

Road Ode

This was the first Carpenters single I owned.  I received it for my 8th birthday, from my oldest sister and her husband.

The single was released on May 16, 1973 and reached #2 on the Billboard chart on June 2.  The b-side was "Road Ode". It was kept out of the #1 spot by "Bad, Bad Leroy Brown" by Jim Croce.  It reached #1 on the Adult Contemporary chart.

The song was written by Richard Carpenter and John Bettis and opened side two of Now and Then.  Side two was made up of an oldies medley and "Yesterday Once More" opened the side and a reprise closed it out.

It was my favorite 45 when I was young.  Now I don't listen to this song as much and sometimes skip it on compilations.
