Released on April 13, 1972, "It's Going to Take Some Time" peaked at #12 on the Billboard chart on April 29.  The #1 song when it peaked was "The Candy Man" by Sammy Davis Jr.  It was the first Carpenters song since "Ticket to Ride" not to make the Billboard Top Ten.

The background vocals on this song are great.  Carole King is quoted as saying that the Carpenters string-laden version, which included a flute solo, makes her own version sound like a "demo".
