Carpenters with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra is considered by some a compilation album and a new album by others.   The CD version was released on December 7, 2018.  The album features Carpenters' "original vocal and instrumental tracks" accompanied by new orchestral arrangements by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. Richard Carpenter served as the album's producer, arranger and conductor.  The album has an overture several interludes to connect songs together for a seamless production.

The Target store exclusive CD and the Japanese release has "Please Mr. Postman" as a bonus track.

Due to manufacturing deadlines, the CD versions were released with several mixes that weren't quite finished.  The vinyl took several more months to complete and several songs have different mixes and additions.  Various online sources also have this final edit.
