Arthur Fiedler and the Boston Pops play the Carpenters Songbook
Arthur Fiedler was an American orchestral conductor who was born in Boston in 1894. His parents were Austrian Jewish immigrants. His father was a violinist in the Boston Symphony Orchestra and his mother played the piano.
He was appointed conductor of the Boston Pops Orchestra in 1930, a position he held until his death in 1979. During his tenure, the Boston Pops reportedly made more recordings than any other orchestra in the world.
The Carpenters appeared with the Boston Pops in 1974. This recording, of orchestral arrangements of Carpenters hits, was released in 1975
