Please Mr. Postman /
This Masquerade
There was no Carpenters album released in 1974, but they did release a single from an upcoming album. "Please Mr. Postman" was released on November 8, 1974 and peaked at #1. It was their 3rd #1 single and was to be their last. It also reached #1 on the Adult Contemporary chart. It would become their 10th and last million selling single. On the week in January that it reached #1, the #2 and #3 were, "Laughter in the Rain" by Neil Sedaka and "Mandy" by Barry Manilow, respectively.
The song was a cover of two previous recordings. The Marvelettes took the song to #1 in 1961 and the Beatles recorded the song for their 2nd album.
I had the single with a generic sleeve purchased in 1975, and found this original sleeve and record on eBay.
